Ani L'Dodi V'Dodi Li

There is a ring I have wanted to get for a few months now - to symbolize this new season that the Lord has brought me into.

It comes from www.jewishbazaar.com. This is a site primarily for Jewish people, and although I'm not Jewish, I have such a love for that people group and for the country of Israel. But there's other reasons for why I want this ring.

1. It's sort of a purity ring - not only does it symbolize waiting for my future husband, but it symbolizes my betrothal to Jesus. He is my forever bridegroom! Iwant to remain pure from the idols, things, pursuits, and entanglements of this world. I am set apart for something greater. Jesus himself is my destiny! My marriage to the King of Kings! Ooohhh....just thinking about it gets me so filled with hope and excitement and love! I can't wait to meet him face to face!

2. Another thing I love about it is that it's in Hebrew. I wish I could read Hebrew, but I can't (yet!). However, I do know what this ring says.

In Hebrew, the words "Ani L'Dodi V'Dodi Li" are inscribed on the surface of the ring, and that phrase means: I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine (from Song of Songs, one of my favorite books of the Bible!).

3. It will open up opportunities for me to talk to people about who Jesus is and what he has done in my life.  I can't wait!

I don't have any money for it yet (this isn't the exact ring I'm going to get, but a nice one will cost around $70, which is a lot of money for me right now).

One last thing - I might actually get a different inscription on it, one that comes from Hosea... "I will betroth you to me forever; I will betroth you in righteousness and justice, in love and compassion." Hosea 2:19

I love that! I will probably get that first part, "I will betroth you to me forever" as an inscription on the inside, while keeping "I am my beloved's and he is mine" on the outside, or I might do it the other way around.

Anyway, these are just thoughts.

Do you have anything special in your life that symbolizes something about you and God?

  1. what an awesome ring! You should totally get it! It reminds me of a Misty Edwards song where she says: "I am my Beloveds and He is mine!" Have you heard it? I see you like IHOP. I'm a HUGE fan! I went to a One Thing conference at IHOP in Kansas City nearly six years ago. It was life-changing! I just love Song of Songs. My daughter's name is from Song of Songs 2:2 "Like a lily among the thorns, so is my darling among the maidens"

I have a purity ring that I wear on my wedding finger. My grandmother got me a purity ring when I was 15 and I wore it. Ironically the ring broke in half when I gave my purity away prematurely. My daughter was buried with that ring tied around her dress. Her name, Lily, means purity and innocence. She was a symbol of my renewed purity in Jesus. Now, I wear a ring that's whole. I also have a bracelet that says in Hebrew: "Bond slave of the Messiah." It would be awesome to speak Hebrew! :)

You talk about living set-apart for Jesus...have you heard of Eric and Leslie Ludy? They are two of my favorite authors and a the Lord used them in a great way to bring me to Jesus. I highly recommend their books. I would LOVE to go to their discipleship training school they just started in June. It's a 10 week program. Check out their websites: setapartgirl.com and ellerslie.com

    1. I also have that bracelet. I talk about it on this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_I7mlx9ADI&feature=youtu.be, and I know someone else' ring who broke in half in the same circumstances, isn't that wild? On both counts! I'm glad you have a new, whole ring. Just goes to show G-d makes us new.

  2. YES. I LOVE IHOP AND MISTY EDWARDS. OH-MY-GOODNESS!!! SUCH A FAN! I have never been to Kansas City - every time me and my girlfriends plan a trip, something happens and we can't go after all. But I follow all the teaching and music and amazing ideas I can possibly get my hands on. I have wanted to go to a One Thing conference ever since early high school. A bunch of kids from my school went and were totally rocked. I have some other dear friends that were down there during this last one. I'm dying to go.
AND Song of Songs is one of my favorite books of the Bible - I pore over it on a regular basis, always asking God to reveal more of his mysteries to me.
That's so awesome that your grandma got you a purity ring! I always wanted one, and I had hoped my dad would give me one, but he never did. He's an amazing dad but I guess he never came across that suggestions even amidst all the parenting books he and my mom read. Lol. I should have just told them I wanted one, but I wanted to see if they'd figure it out on their own (silly me). So, now I'm going to get get myself one!

That's really symbolic that your ring broke. Oh Hannah, your openness and honesty is amazing. You are so genuine and so raw. May God bless you for that. I can just tell you are going to touch so many lives with your story! I think it's beautiful that your daughter was buried with that ring. She has a beautiful name, and it goes so nicely with your middle name. Rose and her Lily. That makes me smile. :)
You know - I HAVE heard of Eric and Leslie (I'm just giggling to myself over how much we have in common - my goodness!). I've only read one of their books, When God Writes Your Love Story, and have been very impacted by their teachings. I've also poked around on their site, and watched their Gotcha Day videos of the two kids they have adopted. I just cried. So beautiful. I hadn't heard about their discipleship training school. I'll have to check it out online! That's so awesome!
